Ice Maker Repair

Summer temperatures can vary and can be brutal. In the latter case, it is always a relief to have access to ice to put in our beer, ice tea or even just water! Refrigerators with a built-in ice maker are godsends and can help you survive the summertime.

However, because of how hard it works, then it may break down. Lucky for you, we have a team of professionals who have more than enough experience with ice makers to get yours back into shape. Give us a call and we’ll have a technician there in no time at all. We know all the common brands and know exactly what makes each one tick.

Common Problems

Though they are relatively simple devices, it still takes an understanding of its mechanisms to repair it. We don’t advise opening it up or trying to dismantle it, as this can lead to more problems. However, there are some simple issues that you can probably fix on your own.

On Pause?

The machine might pause if the bin gets too full or if the buttons are tampered with. This is the first thing you should look at.

Control Arm

Check first to see if the brand even uses a control arm, but most do. Here’s how it works: the ice fills the bin and moves the arm into position. Once the bin is full, the arm pushes out and pauses the machine. Check to see if it is in the right position before calling anyone.

The obvious course of action when it’s hot outside is to lower the temperature of the thermostat. However, this is not the case here. If the temperature is too low, then the water will freeze before it reaches the mold.

Clogged Filter

The owner’s manual will give you suggestions about how often to change the filter. You should perform this as a performative measure often enough to avoid future problems. Do simultaneous checks in the waterline to see if there are any clogs there.

If there are no clogs or blockages, then the valve is probably broken. Don’t attempt to fix this yourself and let us take a look at it.

Frozen Line

If you suspect that the line is frozen, switch everything off to let things defrost. You can leave it alone or you can use a hairdryer to speed up the process.

The latter option should be done carefully. Keep the hairdryer away from any water and put it on a low setting to avoid melting anything.

Afterward, turn everything back on. Call us if things still aren’t performing as they should.

Low Ice Production

Ninety percent of the time, this is due to a frozen line or a clog. Follow the above steps to solve this issue.
